ELI Extreme Light Infrastructure Seminar - Relativistic Optics and Nuclear Photonics

chaired by Henryk Fiedorowicz (WAT), Wojciech Dominik (University of Warsaw)
Monday, 7 November 2016 from to (Europe/Warsaw)
at Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw ( 1.40 )
Pasteura 5, 02-093 Warszawa
Description
The project Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) is part of a European plan to build new generation of large research facilities selected by the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures. The main goal of ELI is to create the largest laser equipment in the world. There will be accomplished and implemented research projects covering the interaction of light with matter at intensities being 10 times larger than the currently achievable values. ELI will provide ultra-short laser pulses of a few femtoseconds duration (10-100 fs) and power up to 10 PW. ELI will bring new techniques for: medical image-display and diagnostics, radiotherapy, tools for developing and testing new materials, X-ray optics. ELI also becomes an attractive platform for educating a new generation of PhD students, scientists and engineers.
