Chopin concert for DISCRETE 2016 Conference participants

Hosted by Jerzy Ossowski of the Fryderyk Chopin Society
 
The Staszica Palace is located in downtown Warsaw within a stone’s throw of Warsaw University and the Church of the Holy Cross, where the urn with Chopin’s heart is held.  The Palace, a fine historical building, is the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences.  The concert will be held in the Hall of Mirrors on the first floor.  The guests will receive programmes in English with the pianist’s repertoire and short biographical note.  A Chopin Society employee will welcome the guests in English and introduce the pianist.  Next he will deliver a short talk about Chopin with the main theme, “Women in Chopin’s life”.
 
Monika Quinn will play an all-Chopin repertoire featuring:
 
Nocturne in G major op. 37 no.2
4 Mazurkas op. 41
Ballade in G minor op. 23
Waltz in C sharp minor op. 64 no.2
Waltz in A flat major op. 34 no.1
Polonaise in A flat major op. 53  (the famous polonaise called ‘Heroic’)
 
After the concert one of the guests, preferably a gentleman, will hand the artist a bunch of flowers supplied by the Society.  If the guests like the pianist’s performance, she will play an encore.  The whole event will last approximately one hour.


Christmas lights
December 3, 5pm: a huge Christmas tree will be lit up at the Castle Square, at the Old Town. At the same time the whole Royal Route (streets leading southward from the Old Town: Krakowskie Przedmieście, Nowy Świat streets, and further) will be illuminated with Christmas lights arranged in many different forms. The event at the Castle Square will be accompanied by a concert.
