Neutrino masses and unitarity violation from higher SU(2) representations

Presented by Mr. Simone MARCIANO on 25 May 2023 from 15:50 to 16:10
Session: Parallel 20

Content

The smallness of neutrino masses is one of the most intriguing puzzles in the context of particle physics. One of the most natural ways to introduce naturally suppressed masses is the construction of dimension-5 effective operators, called Weinberg operators. In the presence of only the standard Higgs scalar doublet, these kinds of operators arise in the three usual seesaw models. In this manuscript, we want to understand which may be the consequences in this context of the addition of new scalar Higgs multiplets. We will take into account the possible UV completions of such models and the phenomenology due to the dimension-6 operators.

Summary

We present a detailed study of the consequences of introducing new scalar Higgs-like fields belonging to higher representations of SU(2) to the Standard Model particle content. At first, we wonder which possibilities are allowed by the symmetry group of the theory. Then we analyse the Weinberg operators obtained by integrating out the new heavy scalars, and then after that, we study the unitarity violation provided by the relevant dim-6 operators. Also, we consider the contributions of the new physics to the gauge boson couplings.
