Content
Detecting symmetries in multi-Higgs doublet models (NHDM) is a challenge due to the basis freedom of these models. To overcome this, a formalism based on relations among basis-covariant objects has recently been tried in the 3HDM. Within this framework we show using representation theory that simple necessary and sufficient conditions for custodial symmetry, verifiable in any basis, can be derived for $N\geq 3$ doublets.
